Vietnam’s seafood exports to the US, China, and Japan overcame 1 billion USD
MEKSEA.COM – In September 2023, Vietnam’s seafood exports reached more than 6.6 billion USD, a reduction of 22% compared to the same period last year.
In September, some of Vietnam’s seafood gradually recovered. Vietnam’s shrimp and tuna exports increased by 9% compared to the same period last year. Besides, cephalopods, crabs, and bivalves were slightly reduced compared to the same period last year, 6-8%.
As of September, Vietnam’s shrimp exports reached 2.55 billion USD, reducing by 25% YOY. However, Vietnam’s shrimp exports in recent months show many positive signs and recovery compared to previous months. Some countries in CPTPP are increasingly importing shrimp from Vietnam like Japan, Australia, and Canada.
As of September, Vietnam’s pangasius exports reached nearly 1.4 billion USD, reducing by 31% compared to the same period last year. Vietnam’s pangasius exports have been recovering in China, Mexico, Brazil, the Netherlands, the UK, and the US. In September, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to some markets reached a value higher than last year.
Similar to shrimp, Vietnam’s tuna exports record a good sign. The value exported in September is equal to last year. In the first 9 months of this year, Vietnam’s tuna exports reached 623 million USD.
As of September 2022, Vietnam’s seafood exports to the top 3 largest markets are the US, China, and Japan, all of which reached more than 1 billion USD. The US gained the 1st position with 1.2 billion USD. China and Hongkong reached 1.15 billion USD in the first 3 quarters of 2023, and Japan reached 1.1 billion USD.
In particular, in September, Vietnam’s seafood exports to the US, China, and the EU recovered and increased by 4-17% compared to the same period last year.
The market is showing signs of improvement, especially in the fourth quarter, so if there are no other changes, and the raw material source is sharply reduced, it is possible that seafood in 2023 will bring in sales of about 9.2 – 9.3 billion USD.
