Vietnam’s canned tuna exports increases significantly in 2023
MEKSEA.COM – While Vietnam’s frozen tuna meat/loin exports have been steadily decreasing since the beginning of the year, the exports of canned tuna are showing an upward trend towards the end of the year, offsetting the decline in previous months. According to Vietnam Customs statistics, Vietnam’s canned tuna exports reached over 135 million USD by the end of July 2023, a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
Vietnam’s canned tuna products have been exported to 68 markets during this period. Among them, the United States, Germany, and Israel are the top three importing markets, accounting for over 50% of Vietnam’s total export revenue for this product group.
In the U.S. market, canned tuna exports, after continuous declines in the first five months of the year, saw a 45% increase in July.
Meanwhile, canned tuna exports to the EU have been on the rise. Currently, Germany and the Netherlands are the top two markets within the EU, with growth rates of 45% and 170%, respectively. Additionally, this year, canned tuna exports to Italy are making a significant impact with a 421% increase.
Alongside the EU, canned tuna exports to Israel have also surged nearly 200% compared to the same period last year.
In addition to the traditional canned tuna export markets mentioned above, due to inflationary pressures this year, canned tuna exports to some new markets like South Korea and Chile in the first seven months of the year have also shown strong growth, increasing fivefold and doubling, respectively, compared to the same period in 2022.
