Vietnam’s pangasius exports to ASEAN market shows positive indication
MEKSEA.COM – ASEAN is one of the major market blocks of Vietnam’s pangasius exports and tends to increase imports of this seafood product from Vietnam. By the end of September 2022, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to ASEAN were more than 152 million USD, equivalent to about 8% of the total of Vietnam’s pangasius exports.
According to statistics, up to now, the proportion of exports the to ASEAN market has been almost equal to that of the EU in the total export of Vietnam’s pangasius. In which, main markets are Thailand, Singapore, Philippines.
In particular, Thailand accounts for 3.6% of Vietnam’s pangasius export value. Pangasius exports to this market by the end of the third quarter of 2022 reached over 700 million USD, up 81% over the same period in 2021. In September, pangasius exported to Thailand increased by 165%.
The most breakthrough increase in September was the Philippine market, increasing 5 times over the same period therefore, by the end of the third quarter, pangasius exports to this market increased by 92% to over 25 million USD, accounting for 1.3% of the total of Vietnam’s pangasius export.
The second place in terms of consumption of Vietnam’s pangasius in ASEAN is Singapore with over 28 million USD in the first 9 months of this year, up 56% over the same period. Particularly in September, pangasius exported to this market also increased sharply by 138%.
Besides, other countries in ASEAN such as Cambodia, Indonesia, and Laos have all tended to strongly increase imports of Vietnam’s pangasius, with a growth rate of 3 to 23 times over the same period last year. 2021.
With the current growth rate, shortly, ASEAN might surpass the EU about import pangasius from Vietnam.
