Tuna exports to the EU continue to surge

Bởi Meksea Team - March 7, 2024

MEKSEA.COM – In the first month of 2024, Vietnam’s tuna exports to the EU continued to soar compared to the same period in 2023, with a growth rate of 96%, reaching over 17 million USD. Exports to most markets within this bloc have seen significant increases.

Strong growth across all product groups

According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, exports of various tuna product categories from Vietnam to the EU in the first month of the year have all increased compared to the same period.

Notably, exports of fresh, frozen, and dried tuna products under HS code 03 (excluding frozen tuna meat/loin under HS0304) have increased by 317 times. Exports of other processed tuna products, primarily frozen steamed tuna loins, have increased by over 9 times. This indicates that the tariff benefits under the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) are creating substantial incentives for Vietnam’s tuna products in the early months of the year.

Exports to EU member countries are on the rise

In January 2024, Vietnam’s tuna has been exported to 21 EU member countries. Among them, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands remain the top three markets for Vietnamese tuna. Currently, exports to all three markets have shown good growth compared to the same period, especially in Italy. In the Italian market, tuna exports continue to maintain an extraordinary growth trend in January 2024, with a 364% increase compared to January 2023. Italy is currently the largest importer of fresh and frozen Vietnamese tuna.

Alongside Italy, tuna exports to Poland are also experiencing significant growth. While Vietnam had minimal exports to this market in January 2023, Poland is now the fourth largest tuna-importing market within the bloc, with sales exceeding 1.6 million USD. Additionally, exports to Sweden, Belgium, and Cyprus are also increasing dramatically, with growth rates of 11 times, 2 times, and 5 times, respectively.
