China’s import of Vietnamese pangasius sharply increases.
MEKSEA.COM – According to Vietnam Customs data, in January 2024, Vietnamese pangasius exports to various markets reached 165 million USD, doubling compared to the same period in 2023. The export turnover of pangasius to China and Hong Kong reached 52 million USD, quadrupling compared to January 2023. Specifically, China purchased over 48 million USD worth of pangasius from Vietnam, increasing by 4.5 times compared to the same period last year.
The export turnover of Vietnamese pangasius to China and Hong Kong in the first month of 2024 witnessed the highest growth compared to the same period in the last 5 years. This value is one and a half times higher than the export turnover of pangasius to China and Hong Kong in January 2022 – the record year for Vietnamese pangasius exports, accounting for 32% of the total Vietnamese pangasius exports to various markets.
China continues to be the leading market for Vietnamese pangasius consumption in January 2024. According to experts’ assessments, in 2024, China is still identified as a key seafood export market for Vietnam, expected to achieve high growth. In 2024, this populous country will be one of the main driving forces for seafood exports, including Vietnamese pangasius, as the COVID-19 pandemic has ended, China’s economy shows positive signals, and consumer demand for pangasius is recovering. The favorable geographical location facilitates Vietnamese businesses in exporting to China, optimizing transportation costs compared to other markets.
