China maintains Vietnam’s largest pangasius importer
MEKSEA.COM – According to a statistic from Vietnam Customs, as of June 2023, Vietnam’s pangasius export to China and Hong Kong reached 218 million USD, maintaining the largest pangasius importer from Vietnam.
In June 2023, China and Hong Kong imported 48 million USD of pangasius from Vietnam, down 4% compared to May 2023, down 15% over the same period last year. The decrease of 15% in June was lower than the decrease of the previous months (April and May recorded a decrease of 30% – 60%).
From 2020 to now, China and Hong Kong have always maintained the No. 1 position in importing Vietnamese pangasius. Compared to the main markets, China and Hong Kong maintained the highest growth.
After a period of continuous decline from September 2022 to January 2023, the average export price of pangasius to this market was recorded as stable in the following months.
Consumption demand has decreased, inflation is still close to 0%, and Chinese businesses and consumers still expect prices to fall further, thereby delaying spending, causing a significant decrease in the consumption of goods. Consumer and producer price indexes showed that the world’s second-largest economy continued to weaken in May. These factors had a negative impact on pangasius exports to this market in the first half of this year.
