Vietnam’s tuna exports to Japan recorded positive signs in the third quarter of 2022-02-02

Cumulative in the first 9 months of 2022, tuna export turnover to Japan reached 31 million USD, up 49% over the same period in 2021 and 1.5 times higher than in 2019.

Vietnam mainly exports frozen tuna meat/loin products with HS code 0304 to Japan. Follow is processed tuna products, including frozen skipjack/steamed fin tuna loin, frozen steamed skipjack bonito flakes, etc. Compared with the same period, Vietnam’s tuna exports to Japan grew well, except for canned tuna.

According to World Trade Center (ITC) statistics, Japan’s tuna imports decreased continuously in the first 7 months of 2022. Currently, the inflation rate in Japan has increased at a high level. Therefore, it is forecasted that Japan’s tuna import demand will only increase slightly in volume in the last months of the year. The need for tuna imports from Vietnam will continue to increase in the last months of the year, but the growth rate will slow down.
