Vietnam’s tuna exports to Canada doubled in the first two months of 2022

According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, the export revenue of Vietnam’s tuna exports to Canada by the end of February 2022 reached 7.5 million USD, up 52% ​​over the same period in 2021. This is the most positive growth after months of decline.

Currently, Canada is Vietnam’s second-largest tuna market after the US, accounting for approximately 5% of total tuna export value and is the largest tuna import market in the CPTPP bloc. Vietnam is mainly exporting frozen tuna meat/loin with code HS0304 to this market, accounting for 74% of total export value in the first 2 months of the year.

Currently, Vietnam is the second-largest tuna supplier to the Canadian market, accounting for 12% of the total volume of Canada’s tuna imports in 2021. In the HS030487 frozen tuna meat/loin market segment, Vietnam is the largest source for this market.

According to the assessment of the Vietnam Trade Office in Canada, this is also a potential market for Vietnam’s tuna. According to ITC statistics, Canada is currently the 16th largest tuna import market in the world with a large population and increasing demand for tuna.
