Vietnam’s tuna exports reached more than 1 billion USD in 2022
MEKSEA.COM – In 2022, Vietnam’s tuna exports reached more than 1 billion USD, an increase of 34% compared to 2021. According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s tuna has been present in 99 markets worldwide. In which, the US, EU, CPTPP, Israel, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Philippines, and Egypt are the 9 largest tuna import markets of Vietnam, accounting for 92% of total export value.
In 2022, the cumulative export of Vietnamese tuna to the US reached 44%, with nearly 487 million USD. However, the inflation in this market significantly affected the demand for U.S. tuna consumption in 2022.
Besides, taking advantage of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), Vietnam’s tuna exports are becoming more popular.
The restart of preferential tariff quotas under the agreement in the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Vietnam in the first months of 2023 has also boosted Vietnam’s tuna exports to this market. The value of Vietnam’s tuna exports to the EU increased by 29% in December 2022, reaching nearly 15 million USD. This figure helps bring the total export turnover to this market block in 2022 to almost USD 166 million, up 15% compared to 2021.
Germany, Spain, and Belgium are the three largest importers of Vietnamese tuna in this market block in the past year. Particularly in December, tuna exports to Germany and Spain significantly increased by 3 digits, 161%, and 117%, respectively.
Besides, Vietnam’s tuna exports continuously increased in CPTPP countries, of which, in December alone, tuna exports to Japan increased by 131 percent over the same period.
In 2022, Vietnam’s tuna exports to the CPTPP market reached nearly 136 million USD, up 48% compared to 2021.
In the face of the global economic crisis, inflation has reduced the demand for tuna consumption and imports in many markets, however, thanks to the advantages of raw materials and competitive prices, fish exports Vietnam tuna in 2022 achieved many remarkable achievements. With the above results, Vietnam’s tuna exports in 2022 have reached a new high record.
