MEKSEA.COM – Vietnam’s shrimp export in the first 2 months of this year reached 415 million USD, up 24% compared to yoy. Exports to the Chinese and US markets recorded growth rates of 143% and 26% respectively compared to the same period.

Shrimp exports in February 2024 decreased by 11% to reach 173 million USD due to coinciding with the Lunar New Year. However, thanks to strong growth in January, the cumulative export turnover for the first 2 months of the year still recorded an increase.

The prices of white-legged shrimp and raw material shrimp from Vietnam have been gradually increasing since January this year, although they have not yet recovered to the level of the same period last year.

In February 2024, Vietnam’s shrimp exports to the Chinese and Hong Kong markets increased by 76% to reach 39 million USD. Cumulatively for the first 2 months, shrimp exports to these markets recorded a triple-digit growth rate of 143%, reaching over 81 million USD.

The demand for Vietnam’s shrimp exports to China in the first 2 months of this year is quite high. In the first month of this year, China significantly increased its imports of shrimp to meet the demand for the Lunar New Year.

Vietnam’s shrimp exports to the US in February this year reached 31 million USD. Cumulatively for the first 2 months of the year, shrimp exports to this market reached 72 million USD, up 26%. Although there was a decrease in January, the rate was slight, attributed to coinciding with the Lunar New Year holiday. The average price of Vietnamese shrimp exports to the US, after hitting bottom in November 2023, has been trending upwards in the early months of this year.
