Vietnam’s seafood exports to the Chinese market reaching 170 million USD
MEKSEA.COM – In the first 2 months of 2022, Vietnam’s seafood exports to China doubled year on year, reaching 170 million USD. In which, pangasius up 240%, crab up 198%, squid and octopus up 146%.
After a period of decreasing in 2021 due to zero covid policy, in 2022, China’s seafood import policy already recovered and recorded positive signs. As a result, In January 2022, Vietnam’s seafood exports to China increased by 56% and in February increased 138% year on year.
In the first 2 months of 2022, Chinese importers are in high demand for Vietnam’s seafood products such as pangasius, crab, squid and octopus. Specialty, Hongkong’s pangasius imports from Vietnam increased by 56%.
Besides that, Vietnam’s shrimp exports to this market accounted for a high proportion of 23.4% of the total seafood export to this market, with nearly 40 million USD, up 13%. In which, mainland China consumed Vietnam’s shrimp with a value of nearly 28 million USD, the rest exported shrimp to Hong Kong with 12 million USD.
Currently, Vietnam is still one of the top 3 markets supplying white fish products to China – Hong Kong. In which, Vietnam is the only supplier of frozen pangasius in China.
China is a market that is in high demand for seafood. More rapid urbanization in China, more increasing seafood consumption in the country. However, China frequently changes its import regulations. Therefore, enterprises need to fully comply with the new regulations on exporting seafood to China, strengthen understanding of the needs of each market segment in China, study designs, packaging and labels.
