Vietnam’s seafood exports reached more than 1 billion USD in June 2022

MEKSEA.COM – According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Vietnam’s seafood exports in June 2022 garnered more than 1 billion USD, similar to May 2022 and up 23% over the same period last year.

 

As a result, accumulated in the first 6 months of the year, Vietnam’s seafood export is estimated at nearly 5.8 billion USD, up 40% compared to the first half of 2021.

Specifically, shrimp exports in June 2022 have a growth rate of 7%, reaching 450 million USD. In the first half of 2022, the accumulation of shrimp exports reached 2.3 billion USD, up 33% over the same period last year and accounting for 40% of the total seafood export value. Exports of processed vannamei shrimp in the first half of the year increased by 17% while live/frozen shrimp exports increased by 21%. Black tiger shrimp export in the first half of the year increased by 20%, reaching more than 300 million USD. In particular, lobster exports reached a record growth of nearly 130 million USD in the first half of the year, up 30 times over the same period last year.

In June 2022, pangasius exports still maintained a high growth rate of 54% over the same period, reaching nearly 220 million USD. In the first half of 2022, the accumulation of pangasius export reached over 1.4 billion USD, up 83% over the same period last year, and accounted for ¼ of total seafood export sales. Pangasius exports to the UK in the first half of this year increased by 6 times compared to the same period last year, while exports to Spain increased 3 times, to France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium all increased by 45-90%.

Tuna exports in June 2022 reached over 91 million USD, up 43% compared to June last year. Total tuna exports in the first half of 2022 increased by 56% to 553 million USD, accounting for nearly 10% of total seafood export turnover. In which, the main products are still loin tuna, frozen slice tuna gained 377 million USD, up 122%: specialty, more than half of exported tuna for the US market with high consumption and high growth. Besides, tuna exports to the European market also increased by 9%.

For squid and octopus, in June 2022, these products’ exports reached over 68 million USD, up 34% compared to June last year. By the end of the first half of the year, cephalopod products brought in a turnover of 344 million USD, up 29% over the same period last year, accounting for 6% of export sales. In which, squid exports reached 197 million USD, up 45%, and octopus exports reached 147 million USD, up 12%. Exports of bivalve mollusks, crabs and other fishes in the first 6 months of this year grew by 11-54% over the same period.
