Vietnam’s seafood exports in May 2022

MEKSEA.COM – In May 2022, Vietnam’s seafood exports reached 1 billion USD, increased by 27% over the same period last year. Accordingly, accumulated in the first 5 months of 2022, Vietnam’s seafood export turnover reached over 4.6 billion USD, up 42% over the same period last year.

 

Shrimp

In May, Vietnam’s shrimp exports reached 416 million USD, up 19% over the same period last year. As of May, shrimp exports were estimated at 1.8 billion USD, up 38% and accounting for 39% of Vietnam’s total seafood export turnover.

Thanks to the availability of raw materials for stockpiling from 2021, many Vietnamese enterprises have signed contracts since the end of last year with high prices in the context of covid-19, global price inflation also affected shrimp prices. Besides, participating in international seafood shows in the US, EU, etc., has increased Vietnam’s shrimp exports in the first months of 2022.

However, in May, unusual weather has somewhat affected shrimp production in Vietnam.

Pangasius

Pangasius exports in May increased by 65% ​​to reach 245 million USD, accumulated in the first 5 months of the year Vietnam’s pangasius exports at a high growth rate of nearly 90%, reaching over 1.2 billion USD. This year, the record-high price inflation of food and seafood in the world is an advantage for Vietnam’s seafood exports. In particular, pangasius exports to markets increased significantly, especially in the US, EU, and China.

 

Tuna

Vietnam’s tuna exports still maintained a high growth rate of 41% in May 2022, reaching over USD 93 million. By the end of May 2022, tuna exports reached USD 461 million, up 58% over the same period last year.

 

Squid, octopus

Exports of squid, octopus, and other aquatic products of Vietnam this month had a lower growth rate than in April.

The political instability has had a significant impact on the economic sector, including fishing, making raw materials, and the cost of exploitation high. Therefore, the source of seafood materials that can be easily processed and exported is a difficult problem for businesses today.
