MEKSEA.COM – Vietnam’s aquatic products have gained the favour of Australian consumers. Therefore, recently, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs cooperated with the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) to organize a workshop on “Promoting aquaculture export to Australia”.

Despite being significantly affected by the covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam’s seafood exports to Australia have continued to increase over time, especially in the second quarter of 2021, up 35% over the same period in 2020.

Through the workshop, Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized that the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Australia is developing very well, and Australia is one of the 10 largest trade partners of Vietnam.

Taking advantage of the ASEAN-Australia and New Zealand Free Trade Agreements (AANZFTA), CPTPP, and RCEP to which the two countries are members, Vietnamese businesses need to strengthen cooperation related to testing procedures in the Agreement. AANZFTA can create favorable conditions for Vietnam’s seafood exports in the coming time, at the same time, the uniform application of SPS standards in the AANZFTA Agreement will reduce the possibility of trade disruption and help the aquaculture industry Vietnamese aquaculture takes advantage of easier market access opportunities.

According to the Australian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Environment, Vietnamese seafood is highly appreciated in Australian market as well as trusted and favored by Australian consumers.

Moreover, the representatives of the two countries made proposals to increase the export of Vietnamese seafood to the Australian market, especially in the context of digital transformation and strong development of e-commerce to Vietnamese seafood enterprises make better use of opportunities from free trade agreements.

International trade has been significantly affected by the covid-19 pandemic, Australia emphasized that Vietnam needs to quickly switch to the application of electronic certification – this is a prerequisite for export of Vietnam seafood more and more smooth not only in the Australian market but also with other partners.

Currently, Vietnamese seafood has met the standards of Global Gap, ASC, traceability to ensure it meets the export standards of the most developed markets. In the coming time, Vietnam plans to increase the application of scientific and technical methods, meet production standards along with environmental protection and strengthen cooperation with international organizations to monitor production processes and to promote food and biosafety research.
