Vietnam Clam Exports 2026: Strong Start After a Successful 2025
According to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) After a solid year in 2025, Vietnam clam exports entered 2026 with stronger momentum. According to Vietnam Customs data, clam export value reached USD 120 million in 2025, up 21% compared with 2024.
In the first two months of 2026 alone, exports surpassed USD 18 million, marking a 26% increase year-on-year. Notably, January 2026 generated more than USD 10 million, showing a very positive start for the year.
This performance reflects the steady recovery of global seafood demand and the growing competitiveness of Vietnamese clam products in international markets.

Europe Leads While the US Continues to Grow
- Europe remains the biggest market for Vietnam clam exports. In 2025, key destinations included Spain (USD 28 million), Italy (USD 27 million), China (USD 21 million), Portugal (USD 16 million), and the US (USD 15 million).
- In the first two months of 2026, Italy led with USD 5 million, followed by Spain (USD 4.5 million), Portugal (USD 3 million), and the US (USD 2 million). Southern Europe continues to be a key hub for Vietnamese clams.
- Global demand for clams and mussels stays strong, especially in Europe, while supply remains tight due to climate change, disease, and farming disruptions.
- The US is another growth driver, with imports of Vietnamese clams up 57% in 2025 and 39% in early 2026. With nearly 80% of seafood consumption relying on imports, the market offers strong long-term potential.
Opportunities Ahead with New Challenges
Although the outlook for Vietnam clam exports remains positive, some Asian markets recorded slower demand in the first two months of 2026, with exports to China down 18%, South Korea down 31%, and Japan down 31%. This reflects changing market conditions and increasingly strict import standards, rather than product quality concerns.

Global buyers are placing greater emphasis on food safety, traceability, farming certifications, and consistent supply. At the same time, competition from other seafood suppliers is becoming stronger. In 2026, Vietnamese exporters are focusing on higher quality standards, market diversification, and greater investment in value-added products. With stronger competitiveness and rising global demand, Vietnam clam exports still have solid potential for sustainable growth this year. |
