Vietnam becomes the third-largest seafood distributor in the world

MEKSEA.COM – In the first 10 months of 2022, Vietnam’s seafood exports reached 9.5 billion USD, equivalent to over 7% of the global seafood trade market share. As a result, Vietnam becomes the third largest exporter in the world. It is estimated that by mid-November, Vietnam’s seafood exports reached more than 10 billion USD – a new record for Vietnam’s seafood industry.

According to VASEP, by the end of October 2022, Vietnam’s pangasius exports earned nearly 2.2 billion USD, an increase of 80% compared to the same period in 2021. It is expected that in 2022, pangasius exports will reach over 2.5 billion USD, an increase of 58% compared to 2021.

Not only did pangasius exports grow strongly, but also other seafood products increased. For example, by the end of October 2022, shrimp exports reached nearly 3.8 billion USD, up 19%.

It’s estimated that in 2022, Vietnam’s shrimp exports will reach 4.4 billion USD, up 14% compared to 2021, with vannamei shrimp accounting for 75%, over 3.2 billion USD and black tiger shrimp accounting for 13%, 15 billion USD.

For tuna exports, by the end of October reached 890 million USD, up 50% over the same period. 2022 is the first time that Vietnam’s tuna exports have reached over 1 billion USD.

Taking advantage of domestic and imported raw materials, Vietnam exports diverse tuna products such as loin, frozen fillets and canned fish to markets and flexibly follows market trends in the world.

As of October 2022, Vietnam’s squid and octopus exports reached 625 million USD, up 32%. It is estimated that in 2022, the export of squid and octopus products will reach 734 million USD, up 22% compared to 2021.

To these results, it is estimated that by mid-November, Vietnam’s seafood exports will reach more than 10 billion USD – a historical record for Vietnam’s seafood industry after more than 20 years of participating in the world market.
