Top 10 seafood import markets from Vietnam 2020 – 2021
MEKSEA.COM – The US continued to lead with seafood import turnover from Vietnam, reaching 2 billion USD, up 27% over the same period in 2020.
According to the Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in 2021, Vietnam exported seafood to nearly 170 markets. In which, the US is the largest import market with 2 billion USD, up 27% and accounting for 23% of total seafood export turnover.
Seafood exports to most markets had positive signs such as the EU increased by 12%, South Korea increased by 5%, Australia increased by 16%, Russia increased by 21%.
It is worth mentioning that seafood exports to many potential markets with breakthrough growth rates such as Mexico up 49%, the Philippines up 66%, Israel up 41%, Brazil up 47%, Colombia up 73%, etc.
In addition, many seafood importers in markets participating in FTA (Free Trade Agreement) with Vietnam also take advantage of preferential tariffs to import more competitively priced Vietnamese products such as Australia and Mexico.
In 2021, Australia is also considered a bright spot of Vietnam’s seafood export industry with a growth rate of over 16%, bringing in a value of 265 million USD. This is a potential market of Vietnam’s seafood exports, accounting for 3% of Vietnam’s seafood export value and ranking 7th in Vietnam’s seafood import market. Most of Vietnam’s products exported to this potential market have high growth with double digits.
In addition, VASEP also said that many markets have gradually adapted and accepted to live with Covid-19 such as the US, EU and Brazil, so import demand has recovered strongly in recent times.
