The export of canned tuna from Vietnam is increasingly growing rapidly
MEKSEA.COM – According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, from 2021 onwards, Vietnam’s export of canned tuna has been showing a tendency to increase. The export turnover has risen from $169 million in 2021 to $255 million in 2023, a 51% increase.
Moving into 2024, Vietnam’s export of canned tuna is showing a faster growth trend month by month. Specifically, in the first four months of 2024 alone, exports of this product group from Vietnam have increased by 51% compared to the same period in 2023.
Facing record-high inflation and interest rates, consumers tend to tighten their spending. Therefore, the demand for affordable products such as canned tuna is increasing.
Currently, Vietnam’s canned tuna products have accessed more than 65 markets. Among them, the US, EU, and Israel are the three largest import markets. Exports to these markets have all seen high growth rates, namely 88%, 35%, and 141%, respectively.
Regarding the EU market, exports of canned tuna to countries within the bloc have mostly increased. Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands are the top three markets for Vietnam’s exports in this product group. Among them, exports to Germany and Poland have increased, while the Netherlands shows a decreasing trend. Enjoying tariff preferences under the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has boosted Vietnam’s exports of canned tuna to this market in the early months of the year.
Additionally, apart from Israel, exports of canned tuna to other Middle Eastern countries such as Lebanon and Egypt are also experiencing high growth rates.
