Vietnam’s squid and octopus exports increased by 7% in 2021
MEKSEA.COM – According to data of Customs, Vietnam’s squid and octopus exports in December 2021 is estimated to reach over 60 million USD, up 10% over the same period last year. Export of squid and octopus in 2021 will reach over 600 million USD, up 7% compared to 2020.
Similar to the production and export trend of Vietnam’s seafood in general in 2021, exports of squid and octopus decreased in August and September due to the impact of the 4th wave of Covid-19 epidemic in Vietnam; From October onwards, squid and octopus exports recovered thanks to the flexible and safe adaptive anti-epidemic policy of Vietnam Government.
Depending on the product mix, the export value of squid accounted for 52% and octopus accounted for 48%. In the context of the prolonged Covid-19 epidemic, consumption demand in squid and octopus products will maintain an increase, because of reasonable price, easy to process, have a long shelf life, and are suitable for home processing and consumption such as dried squid, dried octopus, frozen octopus…

The top 10 Vietnam’s squid and octopus exports in 2021 are South Korea, Japan, Thailand, China and Hong Kong, respectively, Italy, the US, Malaysia, Taiwan, Australia and the Netherlands accounting for 97 % of Vietnam’s total export price of squid and octopus.

Korea is still the largest Vietnam’s squid and octopus imports from Vietnam, accounting for 41% of the total export value. In November 2021, the export of squid and octopus to South Korea reached 25.3 million USD, up 22% over the same period in 2020. Accumulated in the first 11 months of 2021, the export of this item to the Korean market reached 219. $0.8 million, up 5% over the same period.
Japan ranked second, importing USD 12.3 million of squid and octopus from Vietnam in November 2021, up 19%. Accumulated in the first 11 months of 2021, exports to this market reached US$101.4 million, down 8% over the same period in 2020.
In November 2021, besides Korea and Japan, Vietnam’s squid and octopus exports simultaneously increased to the markets of Thailand, EU, China, USA, Taiwan and Israel.
