Vietnam’s shrimp industry is regaining momentum and becoming increasingly competitive in the global market. With strong export growth in early 2025, the country is reinforcing its position as a key supplier for international buyers. According to VASEP, Vietnam’s shrimp industry made a strong comeback in Q1/2025, with Vietnam shrimp exports revenue reaching approximately USD 938.5 million, up nearly 37% year-on-year and approaching the peak levels of 2022. After two years of decline, this signals a positive recovery trend for the sector.

Vietnam shrimp export situation
Whiteleg shrimp remained the dominant export item, generating over USD 556,3 million and accounting for nearly 60% of total shrimp export value. However, the most remarkable growth came from green lobsters, which saw an explosive increase of over 500%, bringing in about USD 215 million, driven primarily by robust demand from China. In contrast, black tiger shrimp showed a slight decline, with exports reaching just USD 78.5 million.

As global and domestic demand for shrimp continues to rise especially the shrimp trading season is entering its peak , increasing Vietnam shrimp production in which farming capacity and production is becoming more essential than ever. Among Vietnam’s key farming regions, Bến Tre stands out as one of the most dynamic contributors to this growth both in scale and efficiency.
In May 2025, shrimp farming in Bến Tre saw increases in both farming area and production compared to the same period in 2024. This growth was mainly driven by favorable weather and optimal salinity conditions for shrimp cultivation. Advanced models such as high-tech and super-intensive farming continued to deliver strong performance.

According to the Bến Tre Statistics Sub-department, the province had 1,580 hectares dedicated to whiteleg shrimp farming in May 2025, marking a 4.64% year-on-year increase. Shrimp output for the month was estimated at 15,530 tons, up 4.63% from the previous year. For the first five months of 2025, whiteleg shrimp production totaled around 66,540 tons. This is an increase of 12.58% compared to the same period last year. The expansion in both area and production was largely attributed to favorable environmental factors, which motivated farmers to actively stock ponds. High-tech farming systems continued to contribute significantly to the sector’s success.
