Vietnam’s seafood industry marked a historic milestone in 2025. According to VASEP, Vietnam seafood exports exceeded USD 11.34 billion, growing 13% compared to 2024 – The first time the industry has crossed the USD 11 billion mark.
Strong performance continued through the end of the year, with December exports alone reaching an estimated USD 840 million. The results confirm Vietnam’s position as a stable and increasingly important seafood supplier in the global market, especially during a period of economic and geopolitical uncertainty.

Among key products, shrimp remained the backbone of Vietnam’s seafood exports, generating USD 4.65 billion, up 20% year-on-year. Premium products showed notable momentum, particularly lobster exports, which more than doubled to USD 817 million.
Meanwhile, pangasius exports reached USD 2.19 billion, and other marine fish contributed USD 2.16 billion, supported by diversified export destinations.
2. What Drove Growth in 2025
Several factors combined to support the strong performance of Vietnam seafood exports in 2025.
First, global food supply concerns encouraged importers to increase stockpiling, lifting demand for seafood across multiple markets. This trend benefited reliable suppliers with stable production capacity, including Vietnam.

Second, Vietnamese seafood exporters showed strong flexibility. Many companies proactively adjusted production plans, shipping schedules, and market focus to navigate changing trade policies, technical standards, and compliance requirements – particularly in high-regulation markets.
Finally, free trade agreements continued to provide a competitive edge. Preferential tariffs under CPTPP, EVFTA, and RCEP helped Vietnamese seafood remain price-competitive and accessible, even as some traditional markets faced uncertainty.
3. Market Shifts and What They Mean for Global Buyers
In 2025, Vietnam’s seafood exports showed a clear shift toward more stable and high-growth markets. The CPTPP region emerged as a key driver, with exports reaching USD 3.07 billion, up 22%, supported by steady demand from Japan, Canada, and Australia.
China and Hong Kong recorded the fastest growth among major markets, with exports rising 29% to USD 2.45 billion. Demand for fresh and live seafood. Such as lobster, crab, and shellfish that continued to expand, highlighting strong consumption potential in the region.
Exports to the EU also improved, nearing USD 1.2 billion, as demand gradually recovered, especially for aquaculture products.
Meanwhile, despite ongoing policy uncertainty, shipments to the U.S. still grew slightly, reaching nearly USD 1.9 billion.
