Vietnam Pangasius – Growth Momentum from CPTPP Markets & Value-Added Products

Bởi Meksea-Hien - October 27, 2025

Accord to Vasep, in September 2025, Vietnam’s pangasius export value reached USD 181 million, up 5% year-on-year. Cumulatively, during the first nine months of 2025, export turnover reached nearly USD 1.6 billion, marking a 9% increase from the same period last year. This steady upward trend demonstrates the strong adaptability and competitiveness of Vietnam’s pangasius industry in the face of global market fluctuations.

CPTPP Markets Lead the Momentum to Pangasius

Exports to CPTPP member countries reached USD 29 million, up 34% year-on-year – becoming a key growth driver. Japan stood out with a remarkable 14% increase in the first nine months, thanks to stable demand and tariff advantages under the CPTPP agreement. The success in these markets reflects Vietnam’s ability to meet strict quality standards and sustainability requirements.

Solid Presence in Traditional Markets

China & Hong Kong remained the largest destinations,

China & Hong Kong remained the largest destinations,

China & Hong Kong remained the largest destinations, contributing 29% of total pangasius exports in September with USD 53 million, up 11% from last year. Although US imports slightly declined (-23%), the market continues to show stable demand for high-quality, competitively priced Vietnamese pangasius. In the EU, performance was mixed – while Germany saw a decline, Belgium recorded an impressive 67% growth, proving the rising recognition of Vietnam’s pangasius in Europe.

Value-Added Products on the Rise

Frozen pangasius fillet (HS 0304) remains the mainstay, reaching nearly USD 1.3 billion (98% of total exports). However, value-added products (HS 16) are gaining attention – with USD 39 million in export value in the first nine months, up 23% year-on-year. This segment showcases Vietnam’s growing capability in product innovation, convenience food development, and higher-value seafood processing.

Outlook for Q4/2025 – Stronger Demand Ahead

The price of pangasius fingerlings has increased sharply, signaling higher input costs but also stronger market demand. As global importers prepare for the festive season, Vietnam’s pangasius exporters are expected to benefit from rising year-end orders. With improved supply chain linkages, diversified markets, and expanded value-added production, Vietnam’s pangasius industry is well-positioned to sustain growth and strengthen its global reputation in the months ahead.
