Vietnam pangasius exports continue growing strong momentum in first half of 2025

According to Vasep, in June 2025, Vietnam pangasius exports continue-growing-strong value reached USD 194 million, up 13% year-on-year. Cumulatively, pangasius exports in the first half of the year hit USD 1.023 billion, marking an 11% growth compared to the same period in 2024. These positive results affirm the industry’s resilience and adaptability amid global uncertainties.

Pangasius products under HS code 03 brought in USD 997 million in the first half of 2025, accounting for 98% of the sector’s export value. This is an 11% increase year-on-year. Frozen fillets (HS0304) led the way with USD 821 million, confirming their role as the backbone of Vietnam’s pangasius export industry.

Notably, value-added processed products (HS16) are gaining traction. Exports of processed pangasius reached USD 26 million, up 48% year-on-year, highlighting a strategic shift toward higher-value items and reflecting efforts to restructure the industry toward more sustainable and competitive growth.

Vietnam pangasius exports: Positive Performance Across Key Regions

  • China & Hong Kong continue to be the largest consumers of Vietnamese pangasius. Exports to this market reached USD 53 million in June and totaled USD 249 million in the first half of the year, showing consistent demand. 
  • The United States recorded strong growth, with June exports reaching USD 34 million (up 23%) and first-half exports totaling USD 175 million (up 10%). This reflects robust market demand, particularly for high-quality, value-added products, and the effectiveness of early-year orders. 
  • Brazil remains a standout market, with exports in June surging to USD 16 million which is a 111% jump from the same month last year. First-half exports also reached USD 175 million, showing a 10% increase. 
  • The European Union continued its positive trajectory. Despite slight fluctuations, total exports to the EU reached USD 90 million in the first half, up 5% year-on-year. The Netherlands remains the top EU destination, importing USD 26 million worth of Vietnamese pangasius, an 11% increase.

In response to evolving international trade policies, including upcoming tariff adjustments in the U.S. starting August 1, Vietnamese seafood enterprises are proactively shifting toward premium, processed offerings to enhance product value and maintain market momentum.
