Tuna Export 2025: Innovation for Accelerated Success
MEKSEA.COM – The year 2024 marked a significant milestone for Vietnam’s tuna industry, with export turnover reaching nearly USD 1 billion, despite facing numerous challenges in the second half of the year. To sustain this growth momentum, the industry needs innovative solutions and stronger drivers for further development.

Tuna Export Revenue Achieves Remarkable Growth
According to data from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s tuna export revenue in December 2024 reached nearly USD 86 million, a 17% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Cumulatively, tuna exports for the year totaled USD 989 million, reflecting an impressive 17% growth year-over-year.
In 2024, almost all tuna product categories experienced positive growth. Notably, processed tuna products, after a downturn earlier in the year, showed a strong recovery with a 24% increase in the final months, contributing 17% to the total export revenue. Although canned tuna exports declined in the second half of the year, the category still achieved an overall annual growth rate of 17%. Frozen tuna meat/loin products continued to dominate in terms of export volume and value, with significant growth recorded at year-end.
In Vietnam’s major export markets, tuna export revenue remained higher than in 2023. However, growth rates fluctuated in the latter half of the year, posing both challenges and opportunities for the industry in the coming period.
Opportunities and Challenges for Vietnam’s Tuna Exports in 2025
In 2025, Vietnam’s tuna industry is expected to maintain strong growth momentum driven by rising global demand and favorable tariff policies in international markets, particularly in the United States. During Donald Trump’s second presidential term, Vietnam is anticipated to benefit from high tariffs imposed on imports from China, creating significant competitive advantages for Vietnamese tuna products. Additionally, the revival of tariff incentives under Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) will present major opportunities for businesses to expand exports to potential markets.
To seize these opportunities, businesses must enhance the business environment and simplify administrative procedures. This includes reviewing certification processes (S/C, C/C) to address existing challenges and allowing companies greater flexibility in selecting inspection methods, whether by production batch or export batch. Moreover, effective coordination between regulatory agencies, businesses, and fishermen will be crucial for the sustainable development of the sector. With synchronized solutions and well-crafted strategies, Vietnam’s tuna exports in 2025 are expected to achieve robust growth, further solidifying the industry’s position on the global stage.
