  • Nutritional Value of Pangasius

Panga is a food source rich in protein, omega-3 fatty acids, essential vitamins, and minerals. It contains beneficial unsaturated fatty acids like EPA and DHA, which are good for heart health and brain development. Experts recommend consuming fish 2-3 times per week for the body to absorb necessary nutrients.

  • A Product Used as an Alternative to Meat Protein

You might not know that the protein content Panga provides to the human body is comparable to that found in meat. Currently, health-conscious consumers are gradually shifting towards consuming fish, replacing meat products. They believe that getting nutrients like protein and fat from meat carries a higher health risk compared to the nutrition Panga offers. The structure of fish is more tender than that of meat, aiding the stomach in food digestion and leading to better nutrient absorption by the body compared to meat.

  • Affordable Price for the Majority of Consumers

Compared to other fish products, Pangasius offers a competitive price advantage. Most Pangasius products and food items are easily accessible to the majority of consumers, and its mild flavor suits a wide range of palates.

Pangasius Increasingly Favored, Replacing Pollachius

Amidst current economic and political tensions, consumers are gradually opting for Pangasius (Panga) as an alternative to Pollachius. Panga boasts a lower price point than Pollachius due to its large-scale cultivation in Vietnam. Moreover, Panga offers a stable supply, ensuring market demand is met.

Previously, Alaska Pollock garnered attention, and fishing efforts were reduced to sustain its natural populations. During that period, the supply of Pollock significantly decreased, leading to Panga’s increased popularity. However, after a period of conservation, Pollock production improved, impacting the Pangasius export market.

Nevertheless, thanks to its versatility and stable supply from Vietnam, Panga continues to be a staple on dinner tables in many markets.

Pangasius Growth Characteristics – When is its Golden Time?

Panga is a fish cultivated in brackish waters, primarily in the Mekong Delta region. Fry are typically stocked at the beginning of the year (around January – March) and raised for 6-8 months to reach the optimal size. The period from August to November is considered the golden time for Panga exports to markets such as the US, China, and the EU, in preparation for major year-end or early-year holidays.

During August to November, the Mekong River’s water levels rise, bringing abundant nutrients and ideal conditions for Panga’s strong growth and development. This, combined with an optimal temperature of 27-30 degrees Celsius, creates a favorable environment for the growth of Vietnamese Pangasius.
