Saudi Arabia imports nearly $6 million worth of pangasius in a month first time in 3 years
MEKSEA.COM – In May 2024, Saudi Arabia imported nearly $6 million worth of Vietnamese pangasius, marking the highest level for the same month in previous years since 2022. According to data from the Vietnam Customs, pangasius exports to Saudi Arabia in May 2024 reached nearly $6 million, up 38% compared to the same period last year. In the first five months of this year, cumulative exports of Vietnamese pangasius to Saudi Arabia reached nearly $17 million, up 21% year-on-year and up 81% compared to the same period in 2022.
Vietnam Customs data shows that in the first half of June 2024, Vietnamese pangasius exports to Saudi Arabia reached nearly $2 million, up 16% year-on-year. Cumulative exports as of June 15, 2024, reached nearly $19,000, up 21% compared to the same period in 2023.
Saudi Arabia primarily imports frozen pangasius products from Vietnam. In the first five months of this year, the country consumed more than $9 million worth of frozen pangasius fillets (HS code 03046200), up 122% year-on-year, accounting for 82% of the total import volume. Specifically, in May 2024, Saudi Arabia consumed nearly $4 million worth of pangasius, up 171% compared to May 2023. This month also recorded the highest import value compared to the same period in previous years since 2022.
