Q3/2024: Shrimp Industry Leads in Seafood Export Revenue
MEKSEA.COM – Once again, the shrimp industry has affirmed its leading position in Vietnam’s seafood exports, generating nearly USD 2.8 billion in revenue in the first three quarters of 2024, marking a 10.5% increase year-over-year.
According to Ms. Phung Thi Kim Thu, a shrimp market specialist at the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Vietnam’s shrimp exports to several major markets show positive signs. By the end of September 2024, shrimp exports to the United States reached USD 578 million, up by 8%. Meanwhile, the European market recorded USD 350 million, a 15% increase. Notably, exports to China and Hong Kong (China) hit USD 560 million, with a growth rate of 26%. Although exports to Japan recorded USD 360 million, reflecting a 1% decrease, this drop shows improvement compared to earlier in the year.
From July to September 2024, raw shrimp prices in Vietnam have seen positive changes. Specifically, the price of raw whiteleg shrimp in sizes 50, 80, and 100 pcs/kg grew steadily. Additionally, the average export price of Vietnamese shrimp to the U.S. and EU has been on the rise since June. Moreover, export prices to China and Japan also showed a slight upward trend.
