In 2021, Vietnam’s shrimp exports to the US market over 88 thousand MT
MEKSEA.COM – Despite the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, this is the first time, the US market imports exceeded 800,000 MT, worth over 7 billion USD. In which, Vietnam’s shrimp exports to the US increased 21% compared to 2020 and Vietnam becomes the top 5 largest suppliers of the US.
According to statistics of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), in 2021, the US market imported nearly 900 thousand MT of shrimp products, worth 8 billion USD, an increase of 20% and 24% respectively compared to 2020. The US imported more than 88,000 MT of shrimp from Vietnam, up 33% compared to 2020.
Frozen peeled farmed shrimp (vannamei shrimp, black tiger shrimp) are the most imported US products in 2020. These products account for more than ¼ of the volume and value of US shrimp imports with 226 thousand MT with a value of over 2 billion USD.
Other frozen meat shrimp (cold water shrimp, marine shrimp,…) is the second-largest imported product, accounting for 20% of volume and 19% of the value with 179 thousand tons and 1.5 billion USD.
In addition, other processed shrimp and frozen powder-coated shrimp accounted for 14% and 7% of US imports, respectively.
